...is sing praise with her while we're rollin' in the Bullet (such an apropos name for a Hyundai Elantra, I know...it's such a beast). I remember my high school days when I was too "cool" and "manly" (don't laugh) to sing, especially in church. I don't deserve it, but I'm glad that God has shown me what makes a real man. Real men praise the Lord. Look at David, one of the manliest guys in the Bible. Dude took out a 10-footer with a sling and a stone, conquered armies, and ruled a nation. Check out what else he did. When the ark was being brought back to Jerusalem, "David danced with all his might before the Lord." (2 Samuel 6:14) He also wrote an entire book of praises to God. David was a man...a man after God's own heart. (Acts 13:22) He wasn't ashamed to praise the Almighty God in song and dance.
There are only four places in which I really let the pipes go: Sunday morning worship, concerts, the shower, and the car. And on Saturday night, I had an unbelievable time singing praise to my God with my wife as we drove home from Springfield. It was a great day for sharpening iron with our dear friends Chris and Kim, and the hour-and-fifteen-minute drive home was pure worship. Even though I sound like a garbage disposal when I open my mouth, I love crying out to the Lord in song with a raised hand (the other one on the steering wheel, of course). And Melinda makes everything better. For starters, she has an amazing voice, so at least one of us can bring some quality to the table. She also encourages me when I sing, so I'm never worried about what I sound like in front of her. My sweetie and me, glorifying the Lord...doing what we were made to do.
Here are a couple of my favorites. Which songs do you like to sing out for God? --JB
