a selfless act

We celebrated Joshua's birthday with a surprise several weekends prior to the actual date. Joshua's birthday fell during the workweek and he was starting school as well. We wanted to give him the opportunity to have some fun before he was distracted with his schedule. As a result, on his genuine birthday, it was a rather small party. We invited some of our family over and shared his favorite supper. The evening was all about him. Right? Or so I thought.

When welcoming him home, I was surprised to find him holding flowers. Although I found it odd, I thought maybe someone sent them to his work. Nope. They were for me! That’s right. Me.

I was completely shocked.

I snipped the ends and stuck them in a mason jar, all the while asking why he would send me flowers. “It’s not my birthday,” I said.

He told me to read the card. Here is what he had to say.

Wow, talk about a beautiful and very humbling moment. My husband was giving me gifts on HIS birthday. That is cool.

I am constantly amazed at how selfless he is. What a good example to set for me and our family. Thank you Joshua, for showing me Christ in all things.

AND JOSHUA WANTS EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT HE DOES KNOW HOW TO SPELL BOUQUET! heehee

Sorry for the lack of posts. We have been without internet for over a week now. Anytime I have online is done from my sister's house. We have no idea when the internet will be up and working again, but we are hoping sooner than later!!

Did everyone have an awesome weekend??

Being optimistic that I'll be talking with you soon.

P.S. Thought I'd share one of my very favorite pictures of me and the hubs out at Mama and Daddy's!!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The rules:

1. post these rules

2. post 11 random things about yourself

3. answer the questions provided by the one who tagged you

4. create 11 new questions for the people you tag

5. go to their blog and tell them they've been tagged!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

 Eleven random things about Melinda:

1. She loves milk so much she'd marry it.
2. She watches "White Christmas" at least 30 times a year.
3. She threw her engagement ring out the window during a horrible fight and husband graciously bought her another. (true story)
4. She's only 5'2" tall.
5. Her favorite flowers are daisies.
6. She sometimes doesn't brush her teeth on the weekends. (when I'm not going anywhere people.. don't judge you know you do it too! ;))
7. She eats Franks Red Hot hot sauce on her Doritos.
8. She can't wink.
9. She was in a 10 year relationship that ended up not working out.
10. She cried the first time she went to Disney World.
11. She watched her niece being born. It was seriously love at first sight!

Her answers: (to the questions offered by the tagger)

1. What inspires you about a sunset?
When I see a sunset I'm in awe. It inspires me to sing! Sing praises to the God who painted it for me!

2. Describe one moment you felt completely confident in who you were.
That's a really hard one because I don't feel that way very often. I guess I would have to say when I read scripture and I am reminded of who I am in Jesus and what I mean to Him. That my life was not a mistake and I was created for a purpose. Then and only then am I completely confident in myself because I'm completely confident in my Savior.

3. What is one question you have been struggling with lately?
Why do I have to be nice to them?

4. Name three people besides those related to you by marriage or blood who mean the world to you. Explain why.
Joshua and I have been VERY blessed with the folks God has put in our lives, but for the sake of time I'm gonna have to say at least 4. Our friends Sean and Meredith and Chris and Kim. They mean the world to me because they know us like no other. They've been there for us when we had absolutely no where to go or no one in the world to talk to. I can't tell you how many times we've cried on their shoulders or how many hugs that have been shared, but I've cherished each moment. I'm a better person for knowing them and a friend in Christ is as good as blood.

5. When was the last time you laughed with abandon? What brought on the sensation?
With Kim this weekend, while she was yelling at the TV. What I love about her is that she doesn't care who is around, she just says what she thinks. I think I actually peed a little bit!

6. If you were to write a novel, what would it be about?
If you knew me, you'd laugh. I don't read many novels much less write one. Umm.... can it be a children's book instead? I was originally an art major and I always thought it would be awesome to illustrate a book or have my own card line.

7. Which unfinished project from your past nags at you the most?
Probably a friendship I had that has never really been mended.

8. Do you have any regrets thus far in your life?
Of course. Doesn't everyone? My only prayer is that God helps me learn from those mistakes/regrets and helps me to look more like Him everyday.

9. Which means more to you? A booming voice? Or the still small voice?
The Holy Spirit talks to us in a still small voice but I tell you; I often pray for God's booming voice because sometimes I'm a little dense.

10. Which part of your daily appearance do you take the most pride in?
My smile. It goes a long way ;)

11. Do you believe that God has a plan for your life?
Absolutely. It's hard to be patient and I really have to force myself to search the scriptures instead of others' opinions. Trusting a God we cannot see can be a challenge. However, there's proof of Himself all around us. It's a relationship that He wants to have with His children. He doesn't want us to figure it all out or worry about what lies ahead. He just wants us to rely on Him and take comfort in knowing that when we DON'T know, HE DOES.

Eleven questions for you:

1. Why do you blog?
2. What is your biggest struggle as a woman today?
3. Do you have a guilty pleasure? What is it?
4. What does Jesus Christ mean to you?
5. Tell us something embarrassing that has happened to you.
6. Tell us a personal goal of yours for the coming year.
7. What's your favorite item in your closet right now?
8. What is something you're obsessed with?
9.What are 3 pieces of fashion advice you can give to other bloggers?
10. Do you have a favorite childhood memory? What is it?
11. What single person, other than family inspires you the most?

Miss America

So I might have gotten a little carried away with the Miss America Pageant. This weekend our friends Chris and Kim, Joshua and myself, spent a lot of time sorting through all the contestants the Friday before. We looked at all the photos and read almost all their platforms and educational pursuits. We wrote down our top ten choices and then narrowed it down as the competition wore on. We were yelling at the TV I tell ya.. it was bad.

Miss Oklahoma was my #1 choice from the beginning. (3 out of 4 of us had actually picked her to be #1.) I thought she was gorgeous, her platform was "Milk. It really does a body good." (There's a story behind that though. Joshua and I love milk so much we toasted with it at our wedding. Say what you want.. but yes, we love it that much!) and she was pursuing and education degree; which I have. So needless to say, I loved her. We watched her performance as the night went on, and all liked her even more. She was confident, well spoken, and seriously had a smokin' body.. which, hello?!?! It's the Miss America Pageant for cryin' out loud, it matters! As an important side note, she was America's #1 pick as well. She ended up getting first runner up, but I swear she deserved to win.

My next pick was Tennessee. Ya'll, she was seriously the prettiest person I'd ever seen in my life. Tennessee only made it into the top ten.. which I thought was a load of doggy poopy. But I guess they didn't really care about my opinion. ;)

Miss Tennessee

Miss Oklahoma

These girls are seriously pretty and smart. But as we all know the most important thing in life is not about either one of those things.

Proverbs 31:30 says, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised."

There's nothin' wrong with gettin' all gussied up for our husbands. They appreciate how we look.

“If you feel sloppy on the outside, before long it’s going to get on the inside. Take time to look your best.” ~ Joel Osteen

“How we put ourselves together can be very revealing as to what kind of person we are.” ~ Susan Branch, Artist/Author

But a woman can be very beautiful on the outside, wear all the fancy things, top of the line cosmetics.. but if she opens her mouth and vulgar language comes out or gossip, her beauty is lost.

So remember to clothe yourself with beauty on the inside first. It's what's most important to our God.
